General Discussion on How to Market our game

According to a GDC talk in 2018 by Thomas Reisenegger, the first stage of selling a game is creating awareness. Meaning people should know about our game. This then transitions into consideration meaning show the people game enough times to make them consider buying it. There are various methods to do this.

The first step can be participating in gaming expos and showcasing our game to attendees and professionals there. This is a great way to get the ball rolling and announcing our game. There are several gaming expos happening across Canada. Upcoming is Canadian gaming summit on 8th June in Toronto. We would also have to connect to our audience using other platforms like twitter, discord, etc.

To transition from awareness into consideration phase, we can advert our game on Youtube and other social media platforms. If game is displayed enough times, our audience might consider trying it out. We have to figure out how to give, for example, newsletters about our game to stay connected to our audience. One strategy would be to get people to play demo and have them signup for our newsletter in return.

The next transition is from consideration into customer, and then customer turning into a fan. Once we get our customer to buy our game, we must keep close eye on the feedback and avoid getting a bad review. Customer reviews are then what will push game sales forward.

There is still a lot to discuss when it comes to selling a game. This post is open for discussion and ideas. Feel free to join in.
